I’ve been a brown bag girl for more than a decade. Lucky enough to have a partner with mad skills in the kitchen, for years I’ve had gourmet leftovers every day at lunch. And for years coworkers have jealously eyed my lunch while sitting across the table - peanut butter sandwiches in hand.
The lunch tables have turned. Lately, even with a delectable rerun of last night’s dinner on my plate, I’ve spent lunchtime envying my coworkers’ fare. Leftbank Cafe has seriously raised the bar for office lunches in my world.
One hectic morning a month ago I left my brown bag sitting on the counter at home. I wasn’t super hungry and I felt guilty about leaving behind the lunch my sweetheart had packed, so standing at the cafe counter, I opted to keep it simple. I told Becky, “I’ll have a cup of the butternut squash soup.”
It’s true that I’m given to hyperbole, but I’m being perfectly precise when I say it was the best soup I’d ever tasted. Holy dang. I confessed at dinner that evening that I couldn’t stop thinking about the cafe soup. My sweetie look betrayed as he asked me what was in it.
Almost everyday since, I’ve had soup for lunch or an afternoon snack. Adam, the cafe chef, is uniquely gifted in the ways of soup. There is much of the cafe menu I haven’t tried, but the soup comes with my highest recommendation.

Joanna, I could not agree more! The Leftbank Cafe soups are my favorite. Maybe I shouldn’t admit this…but on multiple occasions, I have purchased soup to eat WITH my gourmet leftovers (I also have a sweetie with mad kitchen-skills). Have y’all tried the Potato Leek w/ Bacon?! Whoa.
