the march toward opening

After 2 years of dedicated effort, Leftbank is on the cusp of opening its doors.  Fantastic serendipity links PICA’s annual Time Based Art (TBA) festival this year with the public’s first look inside Leftbank. We couldn’t have known in 2007 when we began talking with PICA about hosting the festival’s late night hub, THE WORKS, that TBA’S opening night and would also be the night that Leftbank first lets Portland in.  It’s an honor and a delight to host PICA under any circumstances; the convergence of their festival and Leftbank’s debut is bound to be magical.

TBA opens this year with a reenactment of Anna Halprin’s Blank Placard HappeningPICA invites the public to join in an event described here on their website, and we urge you to accept the invitation.  We all plan to!  On Thursday, September 4th at 8:30pm, we’ll join the crowd wearing white, carrying blank placards, and marching from PNCA Commons across the Broadway Bridge, and into THE WORKS at Leftbank.  Come be part of it!
