Leftbank on NBC’s Dateline

Location, Location, Location. Needing a dynamic background for interview segments in Portland, NBC producers chose Leftbank as the ideal backdrop for an upcoming Dateline show. “We wanted something with interesting textures, a sense of space, and resonating architectural features” said series producer Justin Smith. The small crew spent two days in the building, conducting interviews with people who’d been involved in rescue situations where lifesaving calls were made to 911. “We love this building” said the segment’s cameraman, “each angle gives a different story with something fresh to look at.” Aside from Leftbank’s aesthetics, the crew was thrilled by its physical location, close to the highway, downtown, airport and lots of great places to eat, making it not just an ideal space to film, but a great home base for production offices.

Just how did NBC find Leftbank? Recent photos of the building are on file at the State Film Office . The episodes are set to air in mid May of 2008.
